8 QUICK TIPS FOR SUMMER HEALTH

Updated: Mar 23

1. DRINK WATER EVERY 10 MINUTES

Staying hydrated is so important for a multitude of reasons, especially during the heat of summer. I've found that it's easier to get enough water if I roughly watch the clock and make sure that I take a drink at least every 10 minutes. Each person is probably different in what time their body desires, but just pay attention!

2. GET A BIT MORE SUN

No matter how much sun you normally get, your body will always appreciate more. The sun supports healthy bones, manages calcium levels, help heal eyes, reduces inflammation, supports the immune system and glucose metabolism, relieves pain, promotes relaxation, helps wounds heal, raises your happy hormone level, helps repair skin, improves sleep, can help keep weight off, fights depression, helps lower risk of diseases, and gives small doses of vitamin d. Are you convinced yet?

3. APPLY THE 20/20/20 RULE

I love this rule! This rule applies if you're sitting, working on a computer/phone/etc. and looking at a screen. Maybe you're wondering, "What is this rule?" Well . . . Every 20 minutes, get up for at least 20 seconds, 20 feet away. When I'm at work in the office in the mornings, I get up on the hour:00 to use the restroom, get up on the hour:20 to do a quick set of exercises, and get up on the hour:40 to get more water. Since I've started doing this at the beginning of May, I have lost weight, gained muscle mass, and feel amazing instead of sluggish!

4. BE DILIGENT WITH SUPPLEMENTS

It can be hard to build habits, but it ends up being sooo worth it! our family all daily takes fermented cod liver oil (I am soooooo excited to be able to give you a 10% off code for www.greenpasture.org: FRL10), desiccated liver, and probiotics. some of us all rotate taking magnesium, aqautic greens, green coffee, gas + bloat relief, tension relief, and when we're on trips eating food others prepared, dairy + gluten digestive aid.

5. TAKE OFF YOUR SHOES

Do it. Just do it. And let us know how it goes.

6. GROW PLANTS

If you have any interest in growing plants, summertime is a wonderful time to do it because of the warmth and sun. Whether that means a few pots, a whole garden, or somewhere in-between for you, watching things grow and tending to them is so much fun!

7. MAKE SMOOTHIES + TEAS

For many, many reasons, making your own drinks instead of buying them is so healthy! Try mixing seasonal fruit and/or vegetables with milk or kefir + natural sweetener, making a chocolate or peanut butter shake, or making iced tea out of fresh herbs, natural sweetener, water, & ice. You will feel so refreshed with a cool, healthy drink in your hands to sip on!

8. EAT MORE ANIMAL FATS

Eat fat, lose fat. All year long. But fats for the health of your skin is especially important when coming in prolonged contact with the sun. Having healthy skin from the inside out will lower risk of burning, peeling, and skin cancer - even if you are in the sun a lot during the summer. Amazing fats include butter, coconut oil, broth, stock, & lard.

I hope these helped you as much as they have helped me and my family!
